Questions and answers

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions people ask most before they choose a framework and sign. For anything legal-specific, consult a licensed lawyer in your province.

Is a relationship agreement legally binding in Canada?

It depends. Whether a court upholds a given clause varies by province, by the circumstances, and by whether both parties signed freely with independent legal advice. MutualClause templates are educational legal-information documents, not legal advice. Consult a licensed lawyer in your province before relying on any agreement.

What does a MutualClause agreement cover?

Who the parties are, what stays private, consent and media, gifts and voluntary support, boundaries and expectations, consent and autonomy, how it can change, and how it ends. See all agreements for the framework built for you.

How do I receive the template?

As an editable DOCX and a print-ready PDF, delivered instantly via Gumroad after checkout. See how it works.

Can a MutualClause agreement be used to hide abuse?

Confidential information explicitly excludes abuse, harassment, threats, and degradation. Those are never covered.

Can I still report a crime if I have signed an agreement?

Nothing in the agreement can prevent reporting illegal activity to police or authorities. The law overrides any clause that tries.

Can I still speak to a therapist, doctor or lawyer?

You may always speak with therapists, doctors, lawyers, and trusted loved ones. Healing and safety come first.

Is the agreement one-sided?

Both parties hold the same obligations. A one-sided agreement that creates a power imbalance is the opposite of what this is. Read more on our safety page.

Can the agreement be changed later?

Yes. A built-in review process means the agreement is revisited and amended whenever both parties agree.

Do both people need a lawyer?

Independent legal advice is strongly recommended. A reputable partner welcomes your questions and your own legal review and never pressures you.

MutualClause provides educational legal-information templates only. Nothing sold here is legal advice, and purchasing does not create a lawyer-client relationship. These templates do not facilitate or contract for any illegal activity; no intimate activity is implied or obligated by any provision, and consent may be withdrawn at any time. Consult a licensed lawyer in your province before executing any agreement.
